As the first winner of the Green Hotel Award in Indonesia and ASEAN in 2014-2016 and 2018-2020, Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta wants to be part of consistently voicing the Green Initiative to the community.
Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta Public Relations Officer Tessa Zelyanan said the Green Initiative was several steps taken by Hyatt to support an environmentally friendly hotel industry. Hyatt adopts the Tri Hita Karana concept or as humans we must establish a harmonious relationship with three aspects of life, namely, spiritual (with God), between humans and the universe. This concept then led Hyatt to not only focus on creating a Green Hotel within the hotel environment but also outside the hotel environment. Hyatt wants to make a maximum contribution to creating a healthy environment.
Hyatt's Green Initiatives include the #GreenJogja movement or the greening movement along Jalan Palagan and #CleanJogja as a movement to clean up vandalism. Both activities involved various elements of the community starting from Sariharjo Village officials, local residents, Sedan Elementary School students, Ngaglik 4 Middle School, and Hyatt employees. This movement aims to make the Palagan area cleaner from all kinds of illegal graffiti. Even now, Hyatt continues to monitor illegal graffiti around Palagan.
Last March, Hyatt held a Garden Adoption at SMP 4 Ngaglik in celebration of Earth Day. Hyatt beautified the park in the school area and this activity was greatly appreciated by the school. Hyatt also invited students from SMP N 4 Ngaglik to plant trees in the school area. Garden Adoption has been carried out twice and the first time was at the Monjali intersection park in 2015.
The Green Initiative in the hotel area is energy saving and environmentally friendly. Hyatt's energy saving steps include replacing gas with a heat pump to supply hot water to the rooms. Hyatt also uses LED lights in all parts of the hotel to make it more economical and installed a windmill on floor VII which functions as a source of electricity for the rooms. Apart from that, Hyatt also made biopore holes in many areas of the hotel which function to increase the absorbency of the soil and prevent waterlogging. Not only that, Hyatt also breeds tilapia and creates a mini conservation for birds. Apart from being useful for the ecosystem, bird conservation can also be used as a means of recreation for guests. Hyatt also started cultivating hydroponic lettuce and the results are used to make salads at Kemangi Bistro.
Hyatt's next commitment is not to use plastic mineral water bottles in every meeting activity at Hyatt. So for all meeting activities, pouring water is used. Hyatt no longer uses plastic straws and has replaced them with paper straws. This step aims to reduce plastic waste.
The First Hotel in Indonesia to Have Grab Wheels Facilities
It is a matter of great pride for one of the legendary hotels, namely Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta, as the first hotel in Indonesia to provide facilities for guests in the form of Grab Wheels, an environmentally friendly E-Scooter.
Hyatt Regency has agreed to collaborate with Grab Wheels and Grab Indonesia which aims to carry out new innovations and business breakthroughs in difficult times due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
General Manager of Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta, Nurcahyadhi explained that the city of Yogyakarta, in its simplicity, has extraordinary resilience and energy to survive in the midst of the pandemic which has paralyzed all its main activities in the tourism sector. In fact, compared to other tourism cities in Indonesia, the city of Yogyakarta was the first to recover from adversity. This is also what Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta has done. Even though things are still quite difficult, business breakthroughs must continue to be made, one of which is the provision of Grab Wheels.
Business Development Lead Grab Yogyakarta and Emerging Central Java, Heryanti Abel Pramesti also really appreciates this collaboration to jointly support tourism development, especially at Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta.
The new facility in the form of E-Scooter Grab Wheels is now very possible for anyone who wants to explore every corner of the hotel area with an area of 22 hectares. Apart from that, now more guests can experience the beauty of the Hyatt Regency and do photo hunting in every corner which is very Instagrammable.
In order to make things easier and more comfortable for guests, Hyatt has also prepared an exciting route map, considering that there are still many places that have not been visited by guests due to the large area.
Receive the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard Award
Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta received an award as ASEAN Green Hotel Standard 2018 which was held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The award given by the Minister of Tourism, Arif Yahya to the Director of Rooms at Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta, Ateng Aditya, is an appreciation given to hotels that always implement environmentally friendly management programs and policies.
Previously, in September 2017 Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta also received a similar award as First Winner of the National Green Hotel Award which was held at the Bidakara Hotel Jakarta and also commemorated World Tourism Day.
This competition is actually held every two years.
Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta and three other hotels in Yogyakarta should be proud because they were able to win a trophy which also made Indonesia proud in the eyes of the world.
"We are very proud and happy to receive this award held in Chiang Mai because it can show the general public that Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta has fully contributed to the Green Hotel program," he said.

Apart from that, to increase awareness of breast cancer, Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta collaborates with the Indonesian Cancer Foundation to hold the Pink Ribbon Run activity which is held every year.
Other community programs that have been carried out include creating and maintaining city parks, adopting tourist villages and efforts to conserve energy, and so on.
